Youth Group

A new Youth Group was formed in January 2002 as a response to the needs of the four young people in our Fellowship. Their ages range from 11 – 14 and we began meeting as a housegroup on Sunday evenings.

The programme varies from week to week. Every 4 – 6 week we have a social evening when we do things like Ten Pin bowling and cinema visits. Our main aim at this time is to develop relationships between the young people and ourselves.

On reviewing the structure of the group during the summer we decided to move from a housegroup situation to a Youth Group at the Church. This was named ‘Rock Solid’ and it turned out to be a very positive move as most of the young people brought a friend along. This gave us more opportunities to increase the programme content and also to reach out to their non-christian friends.

Our programme has revolved on a monthly cycle which has involved having two ‘Rock Solid’ evenings, alternating with other evenings when we might spend time playing board games, doing drama or perhaps watch a video and eating chips! The ‘Rock Solid’ evening has a Christian theme which is carried right through the games, discussions and talks.

Our church young people have also been attending a monthly Home Group, looking at Christian Basics through the ‘Get God’ discipleship course.

All in all we have been really encouraged as we have looked back over the past year and seen where God has led us in this work. Our prayer is that the Lord will continue to give us wisdom and guidance as we seek to bring our young people and others to a true knowledge of Him.
